Last Gasp

Jarom is one step closer to the coveted t-shirt in what will likely be his final intramural sport, although in a Brett Favre-ish move he has alluded to the possibility of coming back for one more season.

His team won their flag football game 20-18, in a game that was probably the most fun Jarom has ever had in intramurals. They had nine this time, although they did have to sneak someone in using an injured players student ID. Jarom played QB, and since he doesn't like to toot his own horn, I will do it. He played really well. The whole team did. They gave up an early TD, but then came back to tie on a 50 yard bomb to the corner of the endzone that had Alixa thinking out loud (Very out loud, so that anyone in the zip code could hear) "I had no idea you could throw it that far!" She is a great fan for the other team. They got another TD with only 20 seconds left, but then gave up a TD on the first play on a Boise State-like hook and ladder, so it was 13-12 at the half. The opposition got the ball and scored on their opening drive, but didn't get much after that, punting once and turning it over on downs. Jarom's team got a third TD to go up 20-18, and then had to hold them for 1:23. They moved the ball, eventually getting down to the 3 yard line with only 1 second to go. Jarom blitzed in unblocked and was able to tip the QB's pass into one of his teammates arms.

They now play on Friday in the semifinals, which is officially the furthest a team he has played for has made it in any playoffs.

A very amusing side note, the team they played was a couple guys short at the start of the game, so they asked about 20 stupid questions to stall the start of the game, and then gave the world's longest opening prayer. They prayed for the players, the refs, the weather, BYU and all of its leaders, the church in general, missionaries, soldiers in Iraq, and more. It worked though, because by the time he finished another player had arrived. It was very amusing, and there was a great deal of snickering going on. I wondered how long he would go, and if it is ever acceptable to stop a prayer. If not, that is a great filibuster technique that we may have to use someday.

Spring is in the Air

How lazy I have been. It has been three weeks since my last entry. Things have continued to go well here in Provo. It is getting warmer and warmer, which is great. School is getting closer and closer to the end, also great. Jarom and Alixa are keeping busy with school and their respective high school coaching duties. Jarom is helping the MountainView lacrosse team, and Lixi is coaching the sophomore softball team at PG. They are both having a good time and the teams are doing OK.



In the last entry Jarom's basketball team was about to play JD's in the intramural playoffs. They lost. It was an embarrassing game that they did not deserve to win because they played pretty poorly (Jarom missed 4 or 5 layups), but the officiating was quite horrendous, even by intramural standards. 3 players fouled out and one hurt an ankle, so the game ended with 4 playing 4. So the only thing that Jarom has left is flag football. His team finished the regular season without winning a game, but they won their first playoff game despite only having 7 players the entire game (thus forcing them to play 7 on 9). They played well and were lucky that the other team didn't seem to figure out how to take advantage of the numbers until the second half, when they were already down 12-0. The team held on for a 19-13 win on Jarom's game winning 60 yard touchdown catch and run.

Jarom is still trying to get into grad schools, and Lixi is working hard to get him there. She does a lot of application stuff for him, which he really appreciates. There are 3 more schools that they are looking at, Old Dominion, Georgia State, and Tennessee. I'll keep you updated.

Other than that, we are just preparing for spring break (Lixi goes home to Cleveland this weekend) and getting excited for graduation and the celebratory cruise that will follow. I also moved up from small to medium rats this week, which means that I had the biggest meal of my life. Lixi wants to start giving me rabbits, but I convinced her that I am not quite there yet.
